2022 NESA update Kindys
2022 NESA update Kindys

NESA in 2022 have updated the NSW K to 2 curriculums (within the K–10 Curriculum Framework which establishes parameters for the compulsory years of schooling). It identifies the learning essential for all students and guides the evaluation and revision of individual syllabuses. The framework draws on an understanding of contemporary teaching and learning that emphasise outcomes and standards. The Units of Work (UOW) connected with this change, Montessori Progress has developed a draft for your 3-6 class educators. The main aim was to make it very clear WHAT Montessori educators needed to present in order to be complaint with the NSW curriculum outcomes.

Montessorians know that the Montessori curriculum has both indirect and direct aims for each activity. The prepared environment itself is very complex and not everything Montessori environments and educators do to support a child’s love of learning and progression is required by NESA. Therefore although many more activities could be chosen, the ones included are the basic ones we believe are required to comply with NESA outcomes.

Government Policies & Procedures & Montessori
Government Policies & Procedures & Montessori

In June 2021, the government produced some really great resources for educational settings to support and guide them with more detailed information on what should be inlcuded in policies and procedures.

NESA have also made changes to what is needed for compliance. Although the policies and procedures have been written with NSW in mind when individualising the documents this can easily be rectified by schools and centres outside of NSW.

Montessori Progress has developed a detailed overview document for both Montessori schools in NSW and centres across Australia.

Compliant policies and procedures can be accessed by emailing montessoriprogress@gmail.com and they will be sent to you for you to individualise for your Montessori setting.
