Reading intervention
An established reading clinic (the Clinic) in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Australia adopted a new structured literacy program in 2021, Agility with Sound for children who have challenges with their reading, spelling, and writing. The project utilised data collected from 87 children, aged 6 to 15 years old who had attended the Clinic during 2021 and 2022. Findings reveal that children need to know all letter sounds first, especially vowels which are in every word we read. The study found that 30% of children have at their school a Learning Support Assistant or participated in small group lessons to support their literacy. Around 63% are males, with 51% enrolled at public schools and 32% in Catholic schools. Approximately 60% had an official diagnosis of a learning disorder, including ADHD, specific learning disorder in reading and writing, and speech pathology. //o.b5z.net/i/u/10252201/f/MRA_Reading_intervention_with_Agility_with_Sound_Project_2023.pdf
